iPhone 15 Pro Max vs Google Pixel 8 Pro – A Comparison

Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro, released on 12 September, is a dazzling phone that brings a lot of upgrades from its predecessor. Google’s Pixel 8 Pro, released on 12 October, is the latest flagship from Google with improved hardware and features. Both phones have enough differences, making it easy to decide which one to pick.

Design

Both phones have elegant designs with beautiful metals and recycled materials.

  • The Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max measures 159.9 x 76.7 x 8.3 mm and weighs 221 grams, whereas the Pixel Pro 8 measures 213 g. The Pixel 8 Pro has a dual SIM card slot.

  • The iPhone 15 Pro Max has a 6.7-inch super retina XDR OLED display with a variable refresh rate, whereas the Google Pixel 8 Pro has a 6.7-inch new “super Actua” OLED display with a refresh rate from 1hz to 120Hz.
  • The iPhone 15 Pro Max offers 1290x 2796 pixel resolution at 460 ppi. In Contrast, Google Pixel 8 Pro offers 1344 x 2992 resolution at a slightly higher 490 ppi.
  • The iPhone 15 Pro Max has a maximum brightness of 2000 nits. In Contrast, the Pixel 8 Pro has a peak brightness of up to 2,400 nits. The higher nits make it useful to use outdoors in sunlight.
  • Apple uses a dynamic Island cutout to show some tidbits of information. The iPhone 15 Pro Max has face ID as the default biometric solution. In Contrast, the Pixel 8 Pro uses a more discreet punch-hole display and an in-display fingerprint sensor embedded in the screen.

In terms of software, both phones vary as

  • The iPhone 15 Pro Max has IOS 17, while the Google Pixel 8 Pro has Android 14. The Pixel 8 Pro comes with Android 14 and Google’s tailored software features.
  • The iPhone 15 Pro Max supports five years of software updates; meanwhile, Google Pixel 8 Pro provides seven years of software updates.

Camera

  • The iPhone 15 Pro Max features a 48 MP primary camera with customizable focal lengths on the main camera, allowing the user to switch between 24mm, 28mm, and 35mm for different compositions: 12 MP ultrawide camera, 12 MP telephoto capable of 6X zoom.   • The iPhone 15 Pro Max has 8 GB of LPDDR 5 RAM and 256 GB of internal storage, whereas the Google Pixel 8 Pro has LPDDR5X and 256 GB of RAM. Pixel Pro does not support memory cards.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max and Google Pixel 8 Pro use dual speakers with one button firing and the other embedded in the earpiece. However, the iPhone 15 Pro Max has a more punchier and enjoyable sound.

  • The iPhone 15 pro max has a battery capacity of 4422 mAh compared to the 5050 mAh of the Pixel 8. Google Pixel 8 provides good battery life due to its larger battery capacity.
  • The iPhone 15 Pro Max supports 25W wired charging, type C and 15W MagSafe wireless charging; meanwhile, the Pixel 8 Pro supports 30W wired charging, type C and 23W wireless charging. Pixel 8 Pro supports Wireless charging.

iPhone price is $1,200, while Pixel 8 is approximately $1,000.
